Hello, everyone! The Author Sign-Up form goes live tomorrow and I wanted to let you know about one change I've made to it. From my experience signing up for other challenges I've realized there's an option to send the person filling out the form a copy of their information, so I have enabled that option so everyone has a access to the fandoms they've signed up with in case they need a reminder or need to change their fandom.

In order for that to happen I had to set the form to 'collect e-mail addresses', which is something I can't edit. So that you didn't have to submit your e-mail address twice I deleted the original e-mail item, and now you'll be asked for you e-mail before your LJ username.

It's a little thing, but I didn't want anyone to look at the form and wonder what the heck was going on.

See you all tomorrow!

This community is the mirror community to [livejournal.com profile] smallfandombang on LiveJournal. As of 5/8/17 the LJ comm has been imported to this DW comm.

Beginning with our next round (Round Seven will open on September 1, 2017), Small Fandoms Bang will be run on both LJ and DW. When it comes time to post your fic/art announcements, you may do so at either community (though you should only post to one or the other, not both).

Imports will be made after each admin post and at the end of each round.

If you have any questions you may ask them here or contact me at the mod account, sfbbmod @ gmail.com.

If you moderate a small fandom community, or a multi-fandom community that includes small fandoms, and would like to affiliate, please comment HERE.

Due to recent events on LiveJournal, I have imported this community to the already-existing mirror comm Small Fandoms Bang on DW.

If you already have an account on DW and you have claimed your OpenID account, your DW name will automatically appear on the posts attributable to you. If you have not yet claimed your OpenID account, you may do so here.

The current plan is that, beginning with our next round, Small Fandoms Bang will be run on both LJ and DW. I will make admin posts to LJ and do an import so the posts also show up on the DW comm within a few minutes (hopefully!). When it comes time to post your fic/art announcements, you may do so at either community (though you should only post to one or the other, not both). I will set up an RSS feed so that anyone who does not have a DW account but wants to follow the comm on DW so they can see all the fic/art announcements posted there may do so. A final import will be made at the end of each round.

Please note that this plan is subject to change, depending on what happens with LJ between now and Sept 1.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please comment here with them.

Thank you.

Dear Everyone,

Today’s challenge at Fandom Snowflake is to send feedback to someone, with an emphasis this year on “the people who run challenges and exchanges, moderate communities, give us spaces to chat and bring us together.” While doing that I realized that this community would not still be here today without all of you. The fact that a multi-fandom, small fandom big bang has continued for six rounds when so many others fold after one or two, is a testament to everyone who signs up here as an author, or an artist, or a cheerleader/beta. So, thank you. I hope you all know how much I appreciate you, and the fact that you choose to participate here. *hugs*

Hello, everyone! Just a reminder, if you need to contact the mod you may do so in a reply to the appropriate post OR by e-mailing me at the mod account, sfbbmod @ gmail.com. Please do not PM me. E-mail conversations are easier to keep track of, and I can't read your PM, much less reply to you, without logging into the mod account, so if I'm on my phone when I see your PM come in, we're both SOL.

Thank you.

Arrgh! I've received a Jury Summons for the week of March 28th. Of freaking course! Which means I may have very limited availability during the week that final drafts are due and the posting date claims post goes up. *head desk* Best case scenario, I don't have to go in at all. Worst case, I'm there all week. In any case, I will do my very best to keep things running smoothly here, but I wanted you all to know just in case I'm unable to get back to you immediately during that week. I'll update you once I know if I have to go in at all. Keep your fingers crossed!

Before the next round begins, I wanted to let everyone know that we will be instituting a new disqualification rule with regard to authors/artists who drop out of Small Fandoms Bang without letting anyone know.

We’ve had an issue with both authors and artists signing up to participate and then disappearing without a word since the beginning of time this challenge. It’s the kind of thing that happens with these sorts of comms, but it’s also kind of a pain, to be honest, and it sucks when it leaves me scrambling for a pinch hit artist or an author doesn’t get artwork at all because their artist bailed without letting them or the mod know they needed to withdraw from the challenge.

Let me emphasize that there is NO PENALTY for WITHDRAWING so long as you contact me to let me know that you have to withdraw. Real life happens. We all get that.

However, for those authors/artists who henceforth disappear without a word1, there will be a penalty imposed:

~Your first infraction means that you will not be eligible for the next round.
~Your second infraction means that you will not be eligible for any further rounds (ie, you’ll be banned from participating altogether).

From here on out, that’s it; you get two chances.

1 There will be an exception for those authors/artists who do have a very good reason for not being in contact. That means it very well might take a note from your doctor or parents.

Thank you.

Hello, everyone! I can't believe that we're nearing September 1st already and that we'll be starting our fifth round of Small Fandoms Bang! I wanted to let everyone know for sure that we're a go this year, and reiterate the most important dates for the next couple of months:

Sept 1: Author Sign-Ups
Nov 1: Artist Sign-Ups

(Also on Nov 1 will be the first Author Check-In.)

If you'd like to pimp us out before we go live, just c&p the text from the textbox to share this banner:

Author sign-ups for Round 4 will open on September 1 as promised!

Artist sign-ups will open on November 1.

(As you may recall, artist sign-ups opened on the same day as author sign-ups during rounds one and two, but we had a lot of artist attrition those rounds. After getting some feedback from you all, I tried a different tack last round by opening artist sign-ups on January 1 (concurrent with the final author check-in before rough drafts were due) so that artists had an idea what fandoms were being written. As the handful of authors who didn’t receive art last round can attest, that method was a pretty big failure.

This round I’m trying something different yet again, based on the same feedback. Hopefully this will address both concerns mentioned most frequently. By opening artist sign-ups on November 1 we shorten the time period between sign-up and claims by 2 months (yet still give artists plenty of time to sign up). Also, artists will have some idea of what fandoms are being written in because the sign-up post will be concurrent with the first author check-in. Let’s all cross our fingers that this method is more successful than the last. *g*)

If you have any comments or questions about this round, please reply to this post with them. Thank you!

Round 3 is scheduled to open for sign-ups on September 1, but before we go live for this round I wanted to ask for suggestions regarding an issue that has plagued us in both of the previous rounds, namely The Case of the Disappearing Artists.

In the past, Artist Sign-ups have opened the same day as Author Sign-ups, even though artists only have to hang around for up to five months before they can claim and then get on with creating their artwork. We inevitably lose a large number of artists who either forget they’ve signed up, or have had RL issues come up in the meantime, or have changed their mind, or for whatever reason.

My question is to all of you, but most importantly the artists who have signed up here in the past, or who have participated in other big bangs. What can I do to change, or limit, this phenomenon of the Disappearing Artists? Would it help to open artist sign-ups later than author sign-ups?

Any suggestions on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

As of this moment, everyone who has signed up as an author, artist, cheerleader or beta should have received an invitation to our support community, [livejournal.com profile] smallfandomcafe. If you have not received an invitation please let me know as soon as possible so that I may rectify that.

Not sure how to check your invites? It's on your My Invites page: from the menu: Communities/My Invites, or direct url: http://www.livejournal.com/manage/invites.bml.

Also, we have some unaccepted/outstanding invites, so please be sure to head on over to your My Invites page and accept the invitation to [livejournal.com profile] smallfandomcafe. It’s important that you make sure you are watching both communities so that you get all announcements on your f-list.

Thank you, and I apologize in advance if there was any mix-up and you didn't receive your invitation.

ETA: Apparently invites expire after 30 days, so if you signed up early on and hadn't accepted your invite, it's gone now. Let me know so I can send you another one. Thanks.

Outstanding Invitations: We have about a dozen outstanding/unaccepted invitations to our support community, [livejournal.com profile] smallfandomcafe. Please check your mange invites page (from the menu: Communities/My Invites, or direct url: http://www.livejournal.com/manage/invites.bml) and accept the invitation.

Also, it’s important that you make sure you are watching both communities so that you get announcements on your f-list.

Support Community: Speaking of our support community, don’t forget to check out the posts over at [livejournal.com profile] smallfandomcafe! We currently have a meet & greet post for authors and artists to introduce themselves and meet other participating authors and artists, as well as a prompt post, and offer & request for beta/cheerleader posts for those of you wanting to offer your services as a beta/cheerleader (or request the services of same).

Also, don’t forget about the fandom/writing/art resource post and fandom pimp post! If you’d like to suggest resources for a small fandom, or for writing/creating art in general, then please comment to the resource post. If you’d like to create a pimp for your favorite small fandom (or link to an existing pimp) then please check out the fandom pimp post. (And if you’re looking for resources or fandom pimps, please check out those posts.)

Saturday Snippets, discussions posts and writing challenges will be coming soon!

Qualified Fandoms Database: I created a spreadsheet listing most of the qualified fandoms to-date (including fandoms qualified last round) to make it easier on me so that I’m not rechecking fandoms I’ve already qualified. I realized that the list might come in handy for you guys, too, so you can tell at a glance whether the fandom you want to write in has already been qualified or not.

Qualified Fandoms Database

Go to List View to sort the fandoms alphabetically or use the drop down box to see if your fandom is listed.

(The link for this database has been added to the Links Section to the left side of the main community page for ease of finding later.)

I'm so sorry! I was cleaning up the membership over at our support comm, [livejournal.com profile] smallfandomcafe and I accidentally deleted all the members here instead! *head desk* Everyone who wants to participate in round two will have to join this comm again. That's what I get for trying to do everything at once to get ready for our next round. Again, I apologize!

Round Two is scheduled to open for sign-ups on September 1 (the full estimated schedule for this round can be found on the community profile), but before that happens I wanted to give those of you who participated in our last round a chance to offer suggestions to make our second round an even more enjoyable experience. I’m especially interested in knowing whether the time frame allotted for writing and art in the schedule was deemed too much or too little, and whether the Author sign-up period was too long. (There’s still time to tweak the schedule!)

Also, I wanted to let you know that we have made some changes that will not be negotiable. This is because we learned some hard lessons last round. For example, we’ve instituted a check-in for Artists prior to the claim post going up so we have a more accurate count of participating Artists (rather than relying on the sign-ups only to discover that many Artists forgot about us after signing up). We have also made all check-ins mandatory. (I don’t want to have to send out 80 e-mails again to Authors we haven’t heard from. That was not fun.)

And there are some changes that will serve to make things easier for us (just me now!) when it comes to administrative-behind-the-scenes stuff, such as using a form for sign-ups so it builds the spreadsheet automatically instead of me having to add everyone manually.

I’ve revised the community FAQ to clarify/add the new rules. Please take a look at it, and if you have any questions you may ask them there or bring them here.

All comments to this post will be screened.

Thank you for participating last round, and for helping me make our next round an even better experience!

(P.S. As you can see I also changed the font size on the entries because, lordy, that smaller font was tough to read! *g*)
