SFBB04: Author Sign-Up Post

GENERAL RULES & INFORMATION

1. Please make sure you join the smallfandombang community. It will be the Author’s responsibility to watch or track the community to make sure you don’t miss anything.

2. Your fandom must be verified before you sign up. If your fandom wasn’t previously verified last round then you should comment here or at the What Qualifies as a Small Fandom post at our sister community smallfandomfest to have it verified. The general rule for this community is that any fandom with less than 2,000 fic qualifies. (For a list of fandoms that have already been disqualified, please check the What Qualifies as a Small Fandom post at smallfandomfest.)

3. Stories must be at least 10,000 words long. There is no maximum length.

4. All ratings, pairings (gen, het, slash, threesomes), and genres (from horror to romance) are welcome here.

5. AUs are allowed. Crossovers between small fandoms are allowed. Fusions between small fandoms are allowed.

6. Stories must be fictional person fiction only; this challenge does not include real person fiction unless the real person has been fictionalized. (For example, if you’re writing Alexander the Great based on the movie Alexander, or Napoleon based on the Temeraire series.)

8. Stories must be complete and new – no WIPs or previously posted work will be accepted.

9. Authors may sign-up to write more than one fic, and/or to co-write a fic. Please read the FAQ before doing so as there are limits to the number of fic you can sign up to write.

10. If you choose to co-write fic, please only sign up once and list both usernames in the form.

11. If you choose to sign-up to write more than one fic, please sign up separately for each fic.

12. Please note that check-ins are mandatory this round.

13. Stories must not be posted anywhere on the web prior to your posting date, in part or in whole. You will be able to share snippets of your story at our support comm, smallfandomcafe.

14. Authors may also sign-up to do art, but may not claim his/her own fic.

15. Authors, please note that you may be called upon to assist your artist with screencaps, character descriptions, etc. Since this is a multi-fandom, small fandom challenge there is a high probability that Artists will be asked to create artwork for fandoms they are unfamiliar with.

The fandom I want to write for is the Big and Rich mini movie music video for Between Raising Hell and Amazing Grace and I'm sure that no one had weitten a fanfic for it.

I just signed up, but it was only after I did that that I noticed the date that posting begins. I'm sorry, but that's over half a year from now and that's a ridiculous length of time away. I am withdrawing from it this time. Please remove me.

I'm sorry you feel that the sign-up/writing period is too long. Back when we originally created the schedule we knew we'd be running into NaNo in November and things like Yuletide in December, so we gave additional writing time to our authors who might also want to participate in those, as well as possibly write more than one fic for this challenge. It's a schedule has worked well for us for the past three rounds and so I'm not inclined to revisit it at this time.

As requested, I've removed your sign-up from the spreadsheet, but if you change your mind you're more than welcome to sign up again.

I'm pretty sure it does qualify, but I've never done anything for any of the smallfandom fest/bang etc communities before and don't want to get it wrong on my first time! Atlantis, the BBC tv series, qualifies as a small fandom, right?

I think it is on the spreadsheet, but just wanted to double check before I post a link advertising it at the Atlantis lj comm.

For the number of fics to determine whether or not something is considered a small fandom, are you counting AO3, fanfiction.net, or a combination of the two?

Rent has only 375 fics at AO3, but there's almost 7000 at fanfiction.net.

I use any fic archive that comes up when I Google the fandom. These days a lot of the fic archives other than ff.net and AO3 have disappeared so those are the two that I generally use. I combine the total for both, allowing for some cross-posting. If ff.net alone has over 7,000 fic then the fandom would be disqualified, sorry. :(

Yay. Going to try again this round :) The two I'm considering are either Reign or Private Practice. Are those okay? They both have way less than 2,000 combined on AO3 and FF (about 920 for Reign and 1,100 for PP).

Also, it doesn't mention anything in the rules, but if I choose PP, it would be okay to focus it on Addison, right, even though she was also in Grey's Anatomy? (I did a character tag search to check, and counting every random fic she is tagged in, most of which aren't even about her, in Grey's and PP on both AO3 and FF, it's only about 1,800 total.)

Both of those fandoms qualify. It's fine to focus on Addison, just no crossovers with Grey's Anatomy, which doesn't qualify.

Yipes. I've never written for a big bang before, but I've certainly written long pieces in my fandom. Since I'm not doing Yuletide this year - I thought this looked great. I am very excited and might have just thrown up a little. I would assume King Arthur still qualifies (I saw it on the qualified list) but just wanted to make sure.

ETA: I just checked FF.net and AO3 and I think King Arthur might have gone over 2k now. DAMN IT. Apparently I am destined to not participate in any fests this year. That makes me really sad. Let me know if I'm wrong. And if it is too big, please ignore my overeager sign up for writers. Sigh.

King Arthur would probably just sneak in under the wire this round. (Since ff.net doesn't give me exact numbers anymore, and the numbers on their fandom page differ quite a bit from what shows on the Google results page (1,992 vs 1.6k) I use the smaller number, so I'd add 1,600 to the 336/2 (taking into account cross-posting) and you'd just squeak in. Depending on how many fic are written over the course of the year, it might not qualify next round, though.)

Yes, all of those fandoms qualify. (If you were talking about the Qualifying Fandoms spreadsheet, all of those fandoms were listed, however it looks like it might be the last round for Elementary as that fandom is getting very close to 2,000 fic.)

Can I make an argument for Teen Titans (Comic) and/or Young Justice (Comic) separate from their animated series that I don't watch nor know anything about?

You don't have to make a case for them, I'll allow them both. As long as it's the comics and not the cartoons, which are much too large.

Just signed up for Havemercy Series (a.k.a. The Volstovic Cycle) by Jones & Bennett. This was advertised on the fandom's LJ community so I'm fairly sure it counts as a small fandom! If not, let me know :) I've never done one of these before, but looking forward to it!

Hallo! I'd like to check if Batman: The Animated Series qualifies as a small fandom? I think adding the amount of fic on ao3 and fanfiction.net together comes to about 1700 or so fics, so that just squeaks in?
