SFBB06: Rough Draft Submission Rules

Don’t freak out, though, your rough drafts aren’t due today. I’m putting up the submission rules early so that people who have their fic finished, or were having computer issues, could submit their rough draft early if they so wished. (And, to be fair, not getting all of the submissions in one day would also benefit me, as well. *g*)
The rough draft submission date is next Tuesday, January 31, so you still have a week to get your fic to the “required” 8,000 words/80% completed place if you haven’t already. (And yes, I used quotation marks because I’m flexible about that so long as you will A) have your fic finished by the final draft deadline and B) have something substantial to send to your artist after claims.)
Any time between today and January 31, please send an email to me at sfbbmod @ gmail.com.
The subject line should include your author name and the phrase ‘Rough Draft Submission’ so I can keep track of the rough draft submissions. Please copy & paste the form from the text box below into the body of your e-mail and fill it out. [Do Not Remove The Coding because I’m going to c&p it into the story summary post.] You must also attach a copy of your rough draft in either Word or text format.

John earns Derek’s grudging respect and trust, but is it enough? And would Derek be willing to give him more if he asked for it?

~Please retain the coding when you copy & paste, as that will make it easier for me to copy & paste in turn. Also, please note that the LJ User Name, Word Count and Percent Complete portions of the form are for mod use only and will not be included in the claiming post. Story descriptions will be listed anonymously in the artist claiming post.
~Do keep in mind that artists are going to claim your story based in part on your summary, so make it good! Do not merely include the one line summary that will go in your header when you post your story. This summary should be at least a paragraph long, possibly two. Seriously, this is for the artist who is claiming your fic, not someone who is going to decide if they want to read it. Don’t be vague or coy here. If you submit a one or two sentence summary, I’m going to ask you to resubmit a more substantial summary.
NEW~Warnings: Please be sure to warn about anything that might squick or trigger your artist. This includes things like character death, extreme violence, non-con/rape, heavy angst, dark themes, genderswap, mpreg, BDSM themes, A/B/O etc. THIS IS NOT THE WARNING YOU NEED TO GIVE TO YOUR READERS; THIS IS A WARNING FOR YOUR ARTIST, SO PLEASE LIST ANYTHING THAT MIGHT TRIGGER OR SQUICK THEM.
This new requirement is not meant to shame the author, but to protect the artist and author both. You won’t put an artist in the position of having to work with a story they won’t enjoy, and run the chance of possibly ending up with art you’re not satisfied with.
~I will reply to you upon receipt of your e-mail to let you know that I have received your rough draft submission. I will try to get back to you very quickly, though my response might not be immediate.
~Please remember the “Opt-Out-Of-Art” option. If your story isn’t “rough draft ready”, but you’d still like to post your story as part of this round of Small Fandoms Bang, then you may choose to opt out of having your story included in the artist claims post. (You will have to let me know you’ve chosen this option by January 31, complete the final check-in, and submit a final draft to be able to claim a posting date.)
~If you need to drop out at this point, please let me know ASAP! If you do not submit a rough draft or opt out of art, and you have not contacted me, then I will presume that you have withdrawn from the challenge. And as we all know by now, there will be a penalty if you disappear without contacting me, so please don’t do that.
Coming up:
The Artist Claiming Post(s) will go up on Tuesday, February 7. Artists will claim a story from the summaries, which will be posted anonymously. (The Sneak Peak post will go up at least 24 hours prior to the Claiming Post, though I’m shooting for 48 hours to give all the artists time to review the summaries.) The Matching Reveal post will go up on Tuesday, February 14. At that time I will forward the author’s LJ User Name and e-mail to the artist.
I will not be sending the rough draft you submit to your artist. I realize that you may have done further writing and editing, and may want to speak with your artist about the story before they begin work, so it will be up to the author to provide the story to-date to your artist, as well as any other assistance (ie, screencaps) that your artist might need. It is imperative, especially with a multi-fandom challenge such as this one, that you communicate with your artist.
NOTE: Artist sign-ups will remain open until the claiming period has closed (or until all fic have been claimed), so if you’re aware of an artist (remember, we also accept fanmixes, podcasts, vids, etc as fanart) who might be interested in this challenge, please point them our way. Thank you!

Date: 1/29/17 04:23 pm (UTC)Basically, I had a nasty fall the week before Christmas and hurt myself rather badly, and while I am generally mostly recovered now it's taken a while and really threw everything into disarray for a while, and I've struggled to get back into writing in January. I kept telling myself there was still time and I might have a last minute writing burst, but I think at this point I've now admitted it's not going to happen. And I'm not really sure that opting out of art and giving myself a bit of extra time would necessarily help with it. :-(
Fingers crossed my writing mojo will have returned in time for round 7. Sorry again, and good luck with the rest of this round.
