GENERAL RULES & INFORMATION

1. Please make sure you join the smallfandombang community. It will be the Author’s responsibility to watch or track the community to make sure you don’t miss anything.

2. Your fandom must be verified before you sign up. If your fandom wasn’t verified during a previous round (and hasn’t since grown too large to qualify), then you should comment here or at the What Qualifies as a Small Fandom post at our sister community smallfandomfest to have it verified. The general rule for this community is that any fandom with less than 2,000 fic qualifies.

(For a list of fandoms that have already been qualified, please check the Qualifying Fandoms Database; for a list of fandoms that have already been disqualified, please check the What Qualifies as a Small Fandom post at smallfandomfest.)

Don’t forget to check the list for fandoms that have been disqualified since the last round.

3. Stories must be at least 10,000 words long. There is no maximum length.

4. All ratings, pairings (gen, het, slash, threesomes), and genres (from horror to romance) are welcome here.

5. AUs are allowed. Crossovers between small fandoms are allowed. Fusions between small fandoms are allowed.

6. Stories must be fictional person fiction only; this challenge does not include real person fiction unless the real person has been fictionalized. (For example, if you’re writing Alexander the Great based on the movie Alexander, or Napoleon based on the Temeraire series.)

8. Stories must be complete and new – no WIPs or previously posted work will be accepted.

9. Authors may sign-up to write more than one fic, and/or to co-write a fic. Please read the FAQ before doing so as there are limits to the number of fic you may sign up to write.

10. If you choose to co-write fic, please only sign up once and list both usernames in the form.

11. If you choose to sign-up to write more than one fic, please sign up separately for each fic.

12. Please note that check-ins are mandatory.

13. Stories must not be posted anywhere on the web prior to your posting date, in part or in whole. You will be able to share snippets of your story at our support comm, smallfandomcafe.

14. Authors may also sign-up to do art, but may not claim their own fic.

15. Authors, please note that you may be called upon to assist your artist with screencaps, character descriptions, etc. Since this is a multi-fandom, small fandom challenge there is a high probability that Artists will be asked to create artwork for fandoms they are unfamiliar with, so your assistance will be necessary.

Absolutely! Instead of just using this comm for announcements, this year I'm running the challenge out of both, which means doing an import after each mod post and whenever I feel it might be necessary. (It may come to a time when I'm running the challenge ~only on DW because LJ.) When it comes time to post your fic announcement, you can do so right here on DW, as well.

I'm gonna try and write someone for an obscure Shooter Jennings game called From Here to Eternity and I know there isn't a whole lot of fics for that fandom lol hopefully it'll be easy to verify. Thanks.

(and this is CowgirlXena from livejournal, im just using DW cause I got a little paranoid and deleted enteries from my lj blog cause I didn't want any dang chance of the Russian feds coming after me just cause I had a slash fic posted even though I live over here in Idaho and it'll most likely never happen. Funny enough there is a small town a hour or so away from where I'm at named Moscow lol)

Hi! I didn't find any fic, so you're definitely good to go! (I read a bit of an interview with him and his experience sound pretty interesting.) Yeah, LJ is the reason I got off my butt and started using this comm for what it was ~supposed to be used for. I'm glad you're still interested in participating.

Hi there, I just filled out the sign-up form for myself and my co-writer, and I can't find a way to delete it again. For one, I accidentally filled it out the wrong way - I meant to sign up for a crossover, not two separate fandoms - and for the other, I realised too late that one of the fandoms apparently isn't eligible.

So many options I want to write! Two I'm considering are already on the approved list, but I have a question about another. Would Avengers Academy (video game) count? It only has 300-some fics on AO3. It obviously has the same characters as other Marvel properties, but they are all reimagined as teenagers and a lot of them have altered backstories too. (If it helps, Yuletide approved it as its own fandom in their 2016 fest.)

Yes, that would qualify! I tend to separate things like comics or books from movies, etc, and count them as separate fandoms.

I'm sorry, WWE does not qualify. Both AO3 and FF.net (which might actually have more because their numbers can't be trusted) have over 6,000 fic listed.

If I'm looking at the right thing (games), I found ~600 on ff.net and 36 on AO3, so yes, it qualifies.

Hey there, could you check out if The Chronicles of Chrestomanci, Princess Tutu, and Oushitsu Kyoushi Heine (The Royal Tutor) qualify, please?

All three of those fandoms qualify, though Princess Tutu is close to the 2000 fic threshold between ff.net and ao3 in case that affects your decision on which fandom to write this round. *g*

so I'm interested in signing up writing for The Mighty Boosh, which does have 1,200 on ff.net and 502 on Ao3...it's closeish, but a lot of that is overlap?

That fandom does qualify! I take into account a certain amount of overlap by halving the smaller of the two numbers, so instead of 1,700 I'd calculate it at 1,450.

Could you verify Shall We Date? The Niflheim and Date Warp? (The former has 8 works on AO3 and 4 on FFN. I can't find anything at all for the latter.)

Sorry for the late reply! Because of the way ff.net words wrt labeling fic, I have to count all of the fic under the Shall We Date? banner, so that would be 104, but still low enough that both versions of the game would qualify.

just to double check, but it only has a whopper 2 fics listed at Ao3, does Blue Song - Mint Royale (Music Video) count as a small fandom? It tends to be lumped in with the other mighty boosh related fandoms like Sweet (short film)...but I don't believe there are many fic at all, and Mighty Boosh counts...

So I just want to say firstly, thank you for letting people pick multiple fandoms (I have been umming and ahhing for weeks haha, and then I just looked at the actual form and realised I could leave it up in the air a little longer after all phew) and also - I didn't indicate it on the form but I will be a DW only participant, if that's relevant for your records.

All my potential fandoms seem to be on the verified list already, but just in case there's any confusion the Old Kingdom series is the same as the Old Kingdom/Abhorsen trilogy in the verified spreadsheet (there's just more than three books now and the Abhorsen title seems to have been dropped in the process.)

Your comment removes the sting of the person who got irate when I balked at verify nearly 40 fandoms for them so they could sign up with three, maybe one alternate, and write one. *head desk* So really, thank you for thinking I'm being generous!!! It makes me feel so much better.

I will make a note of it just so I don't forget. The only thing it will affect is you joining the support comm since I can't send an invite to a DW OpenID, which I'll discuss further in the confirmation e-mail when I get to that.

Hi, I'm interested in signing up in one of two small fandoms that aren't on the qualifying list yet.

Could you verify the Dragon Series by Elizabeth A. Lynn and the Twenty Planets series by Carolyn Ives Gilman?

The Dragon Series (under Dragon's Winter, the first book) has only 2 fics on AO3, and the Twenty Planets Series, so far, has none.
