Update: Author sign-ups will remain open through November 30.
GENERAL RULES & INFORMATION
1. Please make sure you join the Small Fandoms Bang community at
smallfandombang. It will be the Author’s responsibility to watch or track the community to make sure you don’t miss anything.
2. Your fandom must be verified before you sign up. If your fandom wasn’t verified during a previous round (and hasn’t since grown too large to qualify), then you should comment here or at the What Qualifies as a Small Fandom post at our sister community
smallfandomfest to have it verified. The general rule for this community is that any fandom with less than 2,000 fic qualifies.
(For a list of fandoms that have already been qualified, please check the Qualifying Fandoms Database; for a list of fandoms that have already been disqualified, please check the What Qualifies as a Small Fandom post at
smallfandomfest.)
Don’t forget to check the list for fandoms that have been disqualified since the last round.
3. When you sign up please include up to three fandoms that you are most likely to write in on the sign-up form. If you decide at a later date to write in a fandom that you did not list you must contact us first so that we may verify that it qualifies and update our spreadsheet accordingly.
4. Stories must be at least 10,000 words long. There is no maximum length.
5. All ratings, pairings (gen, het, slash, threesomes), and genres (from horror to romance) are welcome here.
6. AUs are allowed. Crossovers between small fandoms are allowed. Fusions between small fandoms are allowed.
7. Stories must be fictional person fiction only; this challenge does not include real person fiction unless the real person has been fictionalized. (For example, if you’re writing Alexander the Great based on the movie Alexander, or Napoleon based on the Temeraire series.)
8. Stories must be complete and new – no WIPs or previously posted work will be accepted.
9. Authors may sign-up to write more than one fic, and/or to co-write a fic. Please read the FAQ before doing so as there are limits to the number of fic you may sign up to write.
10. If you choose to co-write fic, please only sign up once and list both usernames in the form.
11. If you choose to sign-up to write more than one fic, please sign up separately for each fic.
12. Please note that check-ins are mandatory.
13. Stories must not be posted anywhere on the web prior to your posting date, in part or in whole. You will be able to share snippets of your story at our support comm,
smallfandomcafe.
14. Authors may also sign-up to do art, but may not claim their own fic.
15. Authors, please note that you may be called upon to assist your artist with screencaps, character descriptions, etc. Since this is a multi-fandom, small fandom challenge there is a high probability that Artists will be asked to create artwork for fandoms they are unfamiliar with, so your assistance will be necessary.
For more information, please read the Rules and FAQ before you sign up.

(And just to cover all my bases, could you also verify The Scorpio Races (book) by Maggie Steifvater? The link for that fandom: https://archiveofourown.org/tags/The%20Scorpio%20Races%20-%20Maggie%20Stiefvater/works)
Thanks!

Date: 10/29/20 07:29 pm (UTC)requests for fandoms and some questions
Date: 10/29/20 05:53 am (UTC)Hi, I'm really sorry but I have a few questions if it's not too much trouble for me to ask. I've done this event before so I just want to make sure I'm being thorough. I looked through the spreadsheet and I saw that the podcast Wooden Overcoats hasn't been requested before, so could I ask for it to be verified? I also noticed that Megaman is on the list, but Ao3 hosts more than 2,000 fanfics for that fandom now. Would it still be all right for me to write for a Megaman property (namely this one)? I totally understand if isn't eligible anymore.
Regarding the check-ins, I read through the rules and the FAQ, but I didn't see that there was a minimum word count necessary for each round of this event. Sorry if it was written elsewhere and I missed it, but I was wondering, would a minimum word count be announced as each check-in approaches? Or are there no minimum word counts aside from the 8,000-word count for January 31 and the 10,000-word count for the final check-in?
Re: requests for fandoms and some questions
Date: 10/29/20 07:38 pm (UTC)As for Mega Man, I probably added that to the list back when we were also using ff.net, which doesn't really do a good job separating out different versions. I've now broken the game up into its several versions and, short answer made long, you may write in that one.
There is no word count for check-ins. They mainly serve to give me an idea of how many people continue to plan on participating. You do need to have narrowed down your fandom by the third check-in, though (Jan 1). And as far as the rough draft word count, I'm flexible on that, too. *g*
Re: requests for fandoms and some questions
Date: 10/29/20 08:44 pm (UTC)Thank you so much for the quick response! I definitely see the issue with how FFnet has categorized fandoms. It makes me so glad that we have Ao3 to make browsing fanfics so much easier. And I appreciate the clarification on check-ins! I was worried since I might not be able to write much for the first one coming up, but knowing that there isn't a word count to meet definitely makes it more approachable.
(Also I wrote in my first comment that I've done this before when I meant to say that I've never done it...d'oh. Hope that didn't cause too much confusion;;)

Date: 11/5/20 09:01 pm (UTC)Does Chicago fire qualify as a smallfandom? What about the netflix show 'Julie and the phantoms'?
Another questions: I assume that the power rangers series all fall individually under smallfandoms? Can I write a crossover between these series?

Date: 11/5/20 09:05 pm (UTC)Dates are hard this year

Date: 11/6/20 07:41 pm (UTC)Both of the fandoms you enquired about do qualify.
Yes, all of the Power Rangers series are considered separately and you may write a crossover between two (or more) of them.
