Authors, this is your rough draft submission post!

Don’t freak out, though, your rough drafts aren’t due today. I’m putting up the submission rules early so that people who have their fic finished, or were having computer issues, could submit their rough draft early if they so wished. (And, to be fair, not getting all of the submissions in one day would also benefit me. *g*)

The rough draft submission date is this coming Thursday, January 31, so you still have a little under a week (five days!) to get your fic to the required 8,000 words/80% completed place if you haven’t already.

Any time between today and January 31, please send an email to us at sfbbmod @ gmail .com.

The subject line should include your author name and the phrase ‘Rough Draft Submission’ so we can keep track of the rough draft submissions. Please copy & paste the form from the text box below into the body of your e-mail and fill it out. You must also attach a copy of your rough draft in either Word or text format.

Sample Submission:

Subject Line: Ficwriter – Rough Draft Submission

Body:

LJ User Name: Ficwriter
Word Count: 12,000
Percent Complete: 80%
Fandom: Person of Interest
Characters(s)/Pairing(s): John Reese/Harold Finch
Rating/Category: NC-17/Slash
Genre: Action, Romance
Warnings: violence

Summary: Saving lives is what they do. When a number comes up they do what they have to, including breaking the law, in order to make sure that no innocent gets hurt or killed. But what happens when their number comes up?

Harold Finch has been keeping secrets, but John Reese is good at ferreting them out. He’s been following Finch, studying him, trying to learn everything he can about him. One day he foils a violent attack on Finch that he hadn’t been expecting. Finch and Reese both learn to what lengths Reese will go to protect his partner when he discovers that Finch’s number has come up. And if they learn things about the other they’d never have learned otherwise, well, that would just be a bonus.

Attach: Word or text document.

More Stuff You Should Know:

~Please retain the coding when you copy & paste, as that will make it easier for us to copy & paste in turn. Also, please note that the LJ User Name, Word Count and Percent Complete portions of the form are for mod use only and will not be included in the claiming post. Story descriptions will be listed anonymously in the artist claiming post.

~Do keep in mind that artists are going to claim your story based in part on your summary, so make it good! Do not merely include the one line summary that will go in your header when you post your story. This summary should be at least a paragraph long, possibly two. Seriously, this is for the artist who is claiming your fic, not someone who is going to decide if they want to read it. Don’t be vague or coy here.

~We will reply to you upon receipt of your e-mail to let you know that we’ve received your rough draft submission. We will try to get back to you very quickly, though our response might not be immediate.

~If you need to drop out at this point, please let us know ASAP! If you do not submit a rough draft and you have not contacted us, then we will presume that you have withdrawn from the challenge.

Coming up:

The Artist Claiming Post(s) will go up on February 7. Artists will claim a story from the summaries, which will be posted anonymously. The Matching Reveal post will go up on February 14. At that time we will forward the author’s LJ User Name and e-mail or PM information to the artist.

We will not be sending the rough draft you submit to your artist. We realize that you may have done further writing and editing, and may want to speak with your artist about the story before they begin work, so it will be up to the author to provide the story to-date to your artist, as well as any other assistance (ie, screencaps) that your artist might need. It is imperative, especially with a multi-fandom challenge such as this one, that you communicate with your artist.

NOTE: Artist sign-ups will remain open until the claiming period has closed (or until all fic have been claimed), so if you’re aware of an artist (remember, we also accept fanmixes, podcasts, vids, etc as fanart) who might be interested in this challenge, please point them our way. Thank you!

If you have any questions, you may comment here with them, or contact us at sfbbmod @ gmail .com. Comments will be screened.

It's sent. If you can't open it I can convert a copy to Word.

Hope this helps.

Hi, I have already replied to the questioner, but I thought you might like to know as well.

I use Open Office 3.4.1, and you can chose to Save As a Microsoft Word 6.0 document at any time or as a text file, also using the Save As option from the file menu.

It opened in WordPad for me so I was able to see it, but thanks for that tip.

I have my fic on Google Docs, and they have a sharing thing on there so is it alright if I just send you the link to access it?

Wait, what?? 8k words for the rough draft??

Because the 8k part is fine, it's just the 'completed' part I'm having a little trouble with...

urk.

It's always been 8,000 words/80%.

I'll admit that I usually am never able to live up to the 'complete' bit myself. I just don't write that way. (I took that language from existing BBs.) But your artist ~will need enough of the story to be able to create something for it. Maybe I'll do as I've seen on another BB just today, include language along the lines of 'include a summary of the ending'.

I'm doing two. Should I send them separately?

Which ever is easier for you. You can send them in the same e-mail if you want, just make sure you include both summary forms and both attachments. *g*
