We still have two great stories in need of claiming! If you haven't yet claimed a fic, or if you'd like to claim a second (or third), please head on over to the Artist Claims Post and do so.

Thank you!

Sorry for not making this post yesterday, but we have now passed the 48-hour period, so artists who wish to do so may now choose a second story for which to create art.

Artist Claims Post

Thank you!

ETA: There are currently only four unclaimed fic. If those four fic are claimed before I get online Sunday morning, then artists will be able to claim a fic twice. We haven't been able to do that in many rounds, so that's exciting.

Authors, rough drafts are due by tomorrow! Remember that your rough draft need not be 100% complete, but should be a minimum of 8,000 words/80% completed. I need the story descriptions for the claims list I'm putting together so there are no extensions granted.

(That said, I am flexible on how much story you have to submit if you are absolutely certain that you will have your final draft completed by the due date and that you will have something substantial to submit to your artist. Your other option is to continue participating, but choosing to opt out of art.)

If you haven't done so already, head on over to the Rough Draft Submission Rules post for instructions on how to turn in your rough draft.

If you will not be submitting a rough draft (or choosing to opt out of art), please contact me to let me know that you are withdrawing from this round of Small Fandoms Bang. You may comment here (comments will be screened) or send an e-mail to the mod account at sfbbmod @ gmail.com. (Please remember that there are penalties if you just disappear without letting me know that you need to withdraw, so don’t do that!)

Additional Notes:

1. The Artist Claiming Post will go up one week from tomorrow on Sunday, February 7. Artists will claim a story from the story descriptions, which will be posted anonymously. (The Sneak Peak post will go up at least 24 hours prior to the Claiming Post, though I’m shooting for 48 hours to give all the artists time to review the summaries.) The Matching Reveal post will go up on Sunday, February 14. At that time I will send out contact e-mails to the author and artist.

Authors will be responsible for sending their story to their artist as soon as possible. In the past there have been issues with lack of communication between authors and artists. Please don’t be that person who leaves your author/artist hanging.

2. Artist sign-ups will remain open until all fic have been claimed. If you know of someone who’d like to sign-up as an artist, please direct them to the Artist Sign-Up Post.

3. If you have not already done so, please join this community! This is for both Artists and Authors. Authors & Artists will need to be able to post their Master Posts to the community, and the Sneak Peek Post and Artist Claim Post will be locked to members only.

Thank you!

Authors, this is your rough draft submission post!

Don’t freak out, though, your rough drafts aren’t due today. I’m putting up the submission rules early so that people who have their fic finished, or were having computer or internet issues, could submit their rough draft early if they so wished. (And, to be fair, not getting all of the submissions in one day would also benefit me, as well. *g*)

The rough draft submission date is next Sunday, January 31, so you still have a week to get your fic to the “required” 8,000 words/80% completed place if you haven’t already. (And yes, I used quotation marks because I’m flexible about that so long as you will A) have your fic finished by the final draft deadline of March 31 and B) have something substantial to send to your artist after claims – claims open on February 7 and the matching reveal will be made on February 14.)

All about submitting your rough draft... )

Coming up:

The Artist Claiming Post(s) will go up on Sunday, February 7. Artists will claim a story from the summaries, which will be posted anonymously. (The Sneak Peak post will go up at least 24 hours prior to the Claiming Post, though I’m shooting for 48 hours to give all the artists time to review the summaries.) The Matching Reveal post will go up on Sunday, February 14. At that time I will send out e-mails to the author/artist partners with contact information.

I will not be sending the rough draft you submit to your artist. I realize that you may have done further writing and editing, and may want to speak with your artist about the story before they begin work, so it will be up to the author to provide the story to-date to your artist, as well as any other assistance (ie, screencaps) that your artist might need. It is imperative, especially with a multi-fandom challenge such as this one, that you communicate with your artist.

NOTE: Artist sign-ups will remain open until the claiming period has closed (or until all fic have been claimed), so if you’re aware of an artist (remember, we also accept fanmixes, podcasts, vids, etc as fanart) who might be interested in this challenge, please point them to the Artist Sign-Up Post. Thank you!

If you have any questions, you may comment here with them, or contact me at sfbbmod@gmail.com. Comments will be screened.

The third Author Check-In period is now over and we currently have 29 stories in 28 fandoms! Here’s our preliminary list of fandoms for artists who might be interested in signing up, but are leery of doing so without knowing what fandoms are being represented.

Preliminary List of Fandoms: )

Announcements & Reminders:

More Artists & Pimps: I want to thank the 9 artists who have signed-up and checked-in and remind all of you that WE COULD USE MORE ARTISTS!! As you can see from the list, we have a large number of potential fic in quite a diverse bunch of fandoms, and not enough artists for all of them, so please, if you haven’t already done so (or even if you have), pimp us out!

I do not belong to communities for all of these fandoms, so your help would be greatly appreciated. If you belong to any fandom-specific communities for the fandoms listed above (and such announcements are allowed by the mod), please make an announcement! Or pimp us in your own journal or Tumblr! And if you know some artists who are up for a challenge, please mention us to them. Artist sign-ups are still open!

If you are interested in signing up as an Artist, please do so at the Artist Sign-Up Post.

Rough Drafts: Also, please remember that rough drafts are due at the end of this month. (The submission rules post will go up on the 24th, but you will have until the 31st to get them in.) There is no extension on this date because I need the information for artist claims. HOWEVER, I am very flexible regarding ‘percent completed’ so long as you will have the final draft done on time and will have a substantial amount of story to submit to an artist. Additionally, there is the option to opt-out of art, should you wish to take that route.

When submitting your rough draft:

1. Remember that your story description should be at least one or two paragraphs, not a clever one-liner. This description is for your artist, not [necessarily] the summary you’re going to include in your story header when you post. If you don’t turn in a nicely fleshed out description the first time, I’ll ask you to re-do it, so start thinking about that now.

2. Please be sure to warn about anything that might squick or trigger your artist. This includes things like character death, extreme violence, non-con/rape, heavy angst, dark themes, genderswap, mpreg, BDSM themes, A/B/O, etc. This is not the warning you need to give to your readers; this is a warning for your artist, so please list anything that might trigger or squick them.

This new requirement is not meant to shame the author, but to protect the artist and author both. You won’t put an artist in the position of having to work with a story they won’t enjoy, and run the chance of possibly ending up with art you’re not satisfied with.

Thank you!

I know everyone is going to be busy the next two weeks, so I wanted to remind you all that we have our third author check-in and first artist check-in coming up. They will be open for the period Jan 1 - Jan 7.

At this time authors will need to have decided which fandom they're writing in.

If you won't be available for check-in during that period, please let me know so we can arrange something else.

[personal profile] sfbbmod
GENERAL RULES & INFORMATION

1. Please make sure you join the Small Fandoms Bang community at [community profile] smallfandombang. It will be the Artist’s responsibility to watch or track the community to make sure you don’t miss anything.

2. Acceptable art includes: A fanmix with at least 8 songs, a series of at least 8 icons, a video, a podfic, a single piece of two-dimensional art such as a cover or banner (manip, drawing, etc), or title and chapter banners. [At least one piece of art is required; if the artist would like to produce additional work that is absolutely acceptable.]

3. Artists may co-create art. If you choose to co-create art, please only sign up once and list both user names in the sign-up.

4. Artists may have also signed up to write fic, but may not claim their own fic for which to produce art.

5. Please note that check-ins are mandatory.

6. Artists will have the opportunity to claim additional fic if there are any unclaimed fic after the first round of claiming.

7. Artwork must not be posted anywhere on the web prior to your posting date.

8. Since this is a multi-fandom, small fandom challenge there is a high probability that Artists will be asked to create artwork for fandoms they are unfamiliar with. Authors are aware that they may be called upon to assist their Artist with screencaps, character descriptions, etc.

For more information, please read the Rules and FAQ before you sign up.

Update: Author sign-ups will remain open through November 30.

GENERAL RULES & INFORMATION

1. Please make sure you join the Small Fandoms Bang community at [community profile] smallfandombang. It will be the Author’s responsibility to watch or track the community to make sure you don’t miss anything.

2. Your fandom must be verified before you sign up. If your fandom wasn’t verified during a previous round (and hasn’t since grown too large to qualify), then you should comment here or at the What Qualifies as a Small Fandom post at our sister community [community profile] smallfandomfest to have it verified. The general rule for this community is that any fandom with less than 2,000 fic qualifies.

(For a list of fandoms that have already been qualified, please check the Qualifying Fandoms Database; for a list of fandoms that have already been disqualified, please check the What Qualifies as a Small Fandom post at [community profile] smallfandomfest.)

Don’t forget to check the list for fandoms that have been disqualified since the last round.

3. When you sign up please include up to three fandoms that you are most likely to write in on the sign-up form. If you decide at a later date to write in a fandom that you did not list you must contact us first so that we may verify that it qualifies and update our spreadsheet accordingly.

4. Stories must be at least 10,000 words long. There is no maximum length.

5. All ratings, pairings (gen, het, slash, threesomes), and genres (from horror to romance) are welcome here.

6. AUs are allowed. Crossovers between small fandoms are allowed. Fusions between small fandoms are allowed.

7. Stories must be fictional person fiction only; this challenge does not include real person fiction unless the real person has been fictionalized. (For example, if you’re writing Alexander the Great based on the movie Alexander, or Napoleon based on the Temeraire series.)

8. Stories must be complete and new – no WIPs or previously posted work will be accepted.

9. Authors may sign-up to write more than one fic, and/or to co-write a fic. Please read the FAQ before doing so as there are limits to the number of fic you may sign up to write.

10. If you choose to co-write fic, please only sign up once and list both usernames in the form.

11. If you choose to sign-up to write more than one fic, please sign up separately for each fic.

12. Please note that check-ins are mandatory.

13. Stories must not be posted anywhere on the web prior to your posting date, in part or in whole. You will be able to share snippets of your story at our support comm, [community profile] smallfandomcafe.

14. Authors may also sign-up to do art, but may not claim their own fic.

15. Authors, please note that you may be called upon to assist your artist with screencaps, character descriptions, etc. Since this is a multi-fandom, small fandom challenge there is a high probability that Artists will be asked to create artwork for fandoms they are unfamiliar with, so your assistance will be necessary.

For more information, please read the Rules and FAQ before you sign up.

Hello, everyone! I can't believe that we're nearing September 1st already (just over two weeks away!) and that we'll be starting our TENTH round of Small Fandoms Bang! I wanted to let everyone know for sure that we're a go this year, and reiterate the most important dates for the next couple of months:

Sept 1: Author Sign-Ups Open
Nov 1: Artist Sign-Ups Open (And First Author Check-In)

Participation on DW: A reminder that, even though we’re running this challenge exclusively on DW now, you don’t need to have a DW account to participate here. We currently encourage people to participate from many different platforms using OpenID and that will continue. If you don't have a DW account you may still comment to the sign-up post(s), check-in posts, etc and also post your fic/art announcements to the community with OpenID. So whether you participate from LJ or Tumblr or someplace else, you are still welcome and able to play in this small fandom sandbox, and I sincerely and wholeheartedly hope that you will continue to do so.

If you have any comments about the last round, or questions/suggestions for the coming round, please feel free to leave them in a reply to this post. (Comments will be screened.)

If you'd like to pimp us out before we go live, just c&p the text from the textbox to share this banner:
