Author sign-ups are now closed.

GENERAL RULES & INFORMATION

1. Please make sure you join the community. It will be the Author’s responsibility to watch or track the community to make sure you don’t miss anything.

2. Your fandom must be verified before you sign up. If your fandom wasn’t previously verified last round then you should comment here or at the What Qualifies as a Small Fandom post at our sister community [livejournal.com profile] smallfandomfest to have it verified. The general rule for this community is that any fandom with less than 2,000 fic qualifies. (For a list of fandoms that have already been disqualified, please check the What Qualifies as a Small Fandom post.)

3. Stories must be at least 10,000 words long. There is no maximum length.

4. All ratings, pairings (gen, het, slash, threesomes), and genres (from horror to romance) are welcome here.

5. AUs are allowed. Crossovers between small fandoms are allowed. Fusions between small fandoms are allowed.

6. Stories must be fictional person fiction only; this challenge does not include real person fiction unless the real person has been fictionalized. (For example, if you’re writing Alexander the Great based on the movie Alexander, or Napoleon based on the Temeraire series.)

8. Stories must be complete and new – no WIPs or previously posted work will be accepted.

9. Authors may sign-up to write more than one fic, and/or to co-write a fic. Please read the FAQ before doing so as there are limits to the number of fic you can sign up to write.

10. If you choose to co-write fic, please only sign up once and list both usernames in the form.

11. If you choose to sign-up to write more than one fic, please sign up separately for each fic.

12. Please note that check-ins are mandatory this round.

13. Stories must not be posted anywhere on the web prior to your posting date.

14. Authors may also sign-up to do art, but not for his/her own fic.

15. Authors, please note that you may be called upon to assist your artist with screencaps, character descriptions, etc. Since this is a multi-fandom, small fandom challenge there is a high probability that Artists will be asked to create artwork for fandoms they are unfamiliar with.

Please read the Rules and FAQ before you sign up.

If we're doing a crossover, we list all the fandoms in one box, yes?

Also, the form is saying that we must list at least three fandoms or it won't process, so I typed in n/a for fandoms #1 & #2.

Yes! I'll make a note of that.

Oops! I was thinking about the people who submitted a dozen fandoms for verification last round rather than those who knew which fandom they wanted to write in. I'll make a note of that as well. *g*

I'm fairly sure these count as small fandoms, but so you can verify-- The Elder Scrolls video games (specifically TES V: Skyrim) and the video game Fable? I've checked over at AO3 and they're well under the 2000 mark, but I haven't looked at LJ or FF.net. Oh, and while we're on the subject of video games, how about Mass Effect? That's one I'm not sure would qualify :)

And lastly, do the books by Tamora Pierce count? There are more than one series, which I can clarify if you're having trouble with a google search, but I think even all together they'd be small enough...

Oh, wait, the David Eddings books-- I asked about them last year at the 'fest and they counted, but I guess I should check again? Maybe not.

Sorry for the deluge of questions! Just trying to cover all bases before I submit a form :D

All of those fandoms except Mass Effect qualify.

(In future it would be easier for me if you specified which book series you're interested in so I don't have to check every series the author wrote. Thanks.)

I'm really sorry, but when the fandoms are lumped together like that and there's no way for me to determine how many fic of that total are in each of the fandoms I have to disqualify all of them just to keep from pulling my hair out trying to figure it out. I'm sorry.

The Incredible Hulk (TV Show with Bill Bixby) had 36 stories at FFNet, and as far as I can see, no specific to the TV show stories at all on AO3.

Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes has 57 stories at AO3, and 6 at FFNet.

I'd like to do both stories. Still a little unclear on how to sign up for both. (I've filled out the google doc form once).

You need to sign up (ie, fill out the form) for each fic you want to write. If you've only signed up for one, you still need to fill out the form again for the second fic. Thanks.

I'm hoping to write a fusion between Jericho and the Roman-era novels of Rosemary Sutcliff (Eagle of the Ninth series) and just wanted to confirm both those qualify.

You had a Jericho story last year and I've seen prompts for Jericho in smallfandomfest, so I'm assuming that still qualifies.

I'm pretty sure Rosemary Sutcliff's Roman-era novels also qualify: there's somewhere just over 150 works at AO3 under the parent tag for the Eagle of the Ninth series and around the same number at fanfiction.net listed under the 2011 movie. (I can't find anything in Books.) Many of the stories are on both archives.

So, just to check... I'm good to sign up with this crossover, yes?

(I'm still not sure if I want to participate or not but just to be sure:) So, the rule 6 says that RPF is only accepted if the real person has been fictionalized. This means that if I was to write Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid fic, it would qualify, right?
But what if I was to write All President's Men fanfic? The movie is not exactly a documentary but the main characters are not really fictionalized, either...
(Oh, forgot to ask: Spy Game (the movie) would qualify, right?)

It would probably be better to say RPF is allowed if you have a fictional source to draw on, so yes, if you're writing Butch and Sundance based on the movie, it qualifies. As would All The President's Men.

Spy Games also qualifies.

Just wanted to check on something here, because of the complexity of the stories which I tend to develop.

Fandom (Year) - FF.net/AO3

- Enchanted (2007) - 164/23
- Mulan (1998) - 484/74
- Sleeping Beauty (1959) - 100/30
- Tangled (2010) - 1,581/139
- The Lady of Shallott - ?

Tangled is the only one which seems to cut it a bit fine, but basically the character is a Rapunzel/Lady of Shallott merge of a sort. Then the Lady of Shallott is loosely attached to Arthurian legend, so I'm not sure where that would fit in. Er... if not, then I'll go with another story rather than this one.

All of these fandoms would qualify.

I'm not really sure what you're asking wrt Tangled/Lady of Shalott. Are you writing a crossover, a fusion? Either of those would be fine.

If you use Arthurian legend you must name a fictional source (that in turn qualifies for this challenge).

Hope this helps!

Question about calling something a crossover: I would like to use the narrator (possible spoiler: the narrator is Death) and narrative style from "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak in my fic set in a different, TV fandom. I'm not using any other characters or elements of that book in my fic. Is this enough to count as a crossover?

If it does count as a crossover, would I be right in assuming that "The Book Thief"/Markus Zusak is okay as a fandom?

Thank you!

That doesn't sound like it would be a crossover, since the narrator isn't original to that 'verse and therefore you're only really borrowing the writing style. (But if it was, then yes, The Book Thief qualifies. *g*)
