GENERAL RULES & INFORMATION
1. Please make sure you join the community. It will be the Author’s responsibility to watch or track the community to make sure you don’t miss anything.
2. Your fandom must be verified before you sign up. If your fandom wasn’t previously verified last round then you should comment here or at the What Qualifies as a Small Fandom post at our sister community![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-community.gif)
smallfandomfest to have it verified. The general rule for this community is that any fandom with less than 2,000 fic qualifies. (For a list of fandoms that have already been disqualified, please check the What Qualifies as a Small Fandom post.)
3. Stories must be at least 10,000 words long. There is no maximum length.
4. All ratings, pairings (gen, het, slash, threesomes), and genres (from horror to romance) are welcome here.
5. AUs are allowed. Crossovers between small fandoms are allowed. Fusions between small fandoms are allowed.
6. Stories must be fictional person fiction only; this challenge does not include real person fiction unless the real person has been fictionalized. (For example, if you’re writing Alexander the Great based on the movie Alexander, or Napoleon based on the Temeraire series.)
8. Stories must be complete and new – no WIPs or previously posted work will be accepted.
9. Authors may sign-up to write more than one fic, and/or to co-write a fic. Please read the FAQ before doing so as there are limits to the number of fic you can sign up to write.
10. If you choose to co-write fic, please only sign up once and list both usernames in the form.
11. If you choose to sign-up to write more than one fic, please sign up separately for each fic.
12. Please note that check-ins are mandatory this round.
13. Stories must not be posted anywhere on the web prior to your posting date.
14. Authors may also sign-up to do art, but not for his/her own fic.
15. Authors, please note that you may be called upon to assist your artist with screencaps, character descriptions, etc. Since this is a multi-fandom, small fandom challenge there is a high probability that Artists will be asked to create artwork for fandoms they are unfamiliar with.

- The Lady of Shallott - ?
Tangled is the only one which seems to cut it a bit fine, but basically the character is a Rapunzel/Lady of Shallott merge of a sort. Then the Lady of Shallott is loosely attached to Arthurian legend, so I'm not sure where that would fit in. Er... if not, then I'll go with another story rather than this one.

Date: 9/19/12 10:51 am (UTC)I'm not really sure what you're asking wrt Tangled/Lady of Shalott. Are you writing a crossover, a fusion? Either of those would be fine.
If you use Arthurian legend you must name a fictional source (that in turn qualifies for this challenge).

Date: 9/19/12 11:25 am (UTC)Hahaha hoo boy. Basically, my intention is for the story to have a character who draws on both Rapunzel (from Tangled) and The Lady of Shallott. She's kept in a tower which she desperately wants to escape, but is told that she can't look out because she will die. So, in a grim but logical manner, she cuts out her own eyes and gets out of there. Only instead of seeing Lancelot, it will be inspired by meeting Flynn Ryder.
The source for Lady of Shallott would be the Tennyson poem. I can't really find fanfiction *for* it, just fanfiction using the ideas of it, and even those are few and far between. (A dozen or so, says my google-fu?)
So, that got totally tl;dr, and I am so sorry. This verse is stupidly complex.

Date: 9/20/12 11:26 am (UTC)The reason I ask is because, writing that Tangled/Lady of Shalott hybrid character would be fine, but it doesn't sound like you're actually writing her in either the Tangled or Lady of Shalott 'verses, and without a fandom you'd be writing original fic which doesn't work for this challenge, blah, blah, blah. Thanks! *g*

Date: 9/20/12 03:46 pm (UTC)The fic will be a sequel to this fic (http://archiveofourown.org/works/374792). It's inspired by Jim C. Hines's Princess series, in that it has three Disney princesses as adventurers.
The three princess in question are Aurora, Giselle and Mulan (hence the main three fandoms), but for the first fic I crossed the setting over with Aladdin to give the story/adventure part.
For a sequel, I want to cross over with Tangled/Lady of Shallott. The group are originally approached by Gothel, who says that her daughter (Rapunzel/Shallott) has been kidnapped by a theif (Flynn). Originally, they believe her, then come to realise that actually things are more complicated, and that Gothel was the one who kidnapped Rapunzel in the first place, and that the 'curse' (from the Shallott influence) was made up, in order to keep Rapunzel from leaving.
There's also going to be use of the 'drops of light growing into flowers' thing from the Disney film, which is a stronger tie. The 'lost princess' angle may or may not come into it.
SO. Major mess, I suppose. But that's the full basis that I have planned. I really hope this actually makes sense now, or I'll just throw in the towel and write that Tarzan genderswap I've been planning for ages.

Date: 9/20/12 08:50 pm (UTC)I only was confused before because it sounded like your Rapunzel/Shalott character was going to be an OC rather than an au-ish Rapunzel, and I just wanted to make sure there was a fandom to go with her.
I think I'm just going to consider this a Sleeping Beauty/Mulan/Enchanted crossover fusion with Tangled/Lady of Shalott and let it go at that. *g*
